Blue Square Premier trophy to be dashed to winners by Conference boss in car

The Blue Square Bet Conference Premier trophy will be delivered old-school style on Saturday - by a man in his car waiting on the side of the motorway.

With league leaders Mansfield at home to Wrexham, and second-placed Kidderminster in action 90 miles away at their Aggborough Stadium against Stockport, it’ll be a race to the finish line in more ways than one in England’s gritty fifth tier of football.

Just two points separate the sides, so Conference general manager Dennis Strudwick will be stationed with the trophy in his Ford Mondeo by a Tamworth service station - presumably with the trophy tucked safely away inside a seat belt on the passenger’s seat - ready to make a frantic dash to whomever looks like they’re going to scoop the top prize.

The Tamworth location slightly favours a trip Mansfield, who face a fourth-place Wrexham side with nothing to play for, but still represents a convenient starting spot should Kidderminster look like stealing the crown.

Strudwick - who’ll be listening for news from both grounds - will make his decision on where to travel at half-time, but could be forced into a dramatic motorway U-turn should results start to swing.
