Delph says he's ready to miss birth of child to help Villa

Fabian Delph insists he is prepared to miss the birth of his first child to help rescue Aston Villa from relegation.

The midfielder’s girlfriend Natalie is due to give birth next month - just as Villa’s run-in comes to a climax.

Paul Lambert’s men are hovering a place above the drop zone after Delph’s own goal denied them three points against Fulham on Saturday.

But now the ex-Leeds man is eager to make amends and help prove Villa have enough bottle - before he starts making them.

"We have spoken about it and we know it’s a possibility it could happen when one of the games is about to go on," said Delph.

"But this is a crucial part of the season and if I’m down to play in the games, I need to be playing.

"Natalie appreciates the situation and is 100 per cent behind me. I want to see my baby being born and ideally it will happen on a Wednesday!"
