One grumpy Newcastle fan took last weekend’s 3-0 drubbing by Sunderland particularly badly, insisting he was unable to give a Black Cats supporter a fair trial while on jury service during a rape case.

After labelling the defendant a ‘Mackem rapist’ and telling his fellow jurors he wasn’t over the weekend’s defeat enough to give the Sunderland fan a fair trial, the unnamed fan was told to inform the court staff of his bias.

This resulted in him being removed from proceedings, after he reiterated his club loyalty to Judge Penny Moreland.

The trial then had to be started again with a new jury sworn in.
