Doncaster hero Coppinger pleads for fans to return shirt

Doncaster's last-gasp goal hero James Coppinger is crossing his fingers the lucky fan who has his title-winning shirt is in the crowd at the Keepmoat tonight.

Coppinger kept his pre-match promise to chuck his jersey into the crowd but such were the dramatic circumstances of his stoppage-time goal in the winner takes all clash away to Brentford, he is understandably regretting that decision.

'I said to Dean Furman, who is my room-mate, if I score in the last minute my shirt is coming off,' said Coppinger, who galloped up the other end to score after Marcello Trotta’s penalty rebounded off the bar. It was the goal which sealed Doncaster’s promotion to the npower Championship in style.

He added: 'To score in the last minute there was no thought process: it came off, it went in and I've never seen it since.

'I don’t think I will. I put somebody else's on - Kyle Bennett's. I only literally stepped back on the pitch and then the referee blew.

'We've only worn that green shirt once this season so we’re just delighted we’ve won in it. But I would have loved to have kept the shirt if I’m brutally honest. I’ve got a lot of shirts from the club and for that one to go on the wall would have been brilliant.'
