Fowler in frame for shock return to football with non-League Macclesfield
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler is set for a shock return to football as manager of non-League Macclesfield Town.
No deal has been signed yet, but Fowler has had an interview with the Silkmen who have been managerless since sacking Steve King on April 4.
The Blue Square Bet Premier League club are expected to announce their new manager this week, but have five other candidates in the running for the post
Fowler called time on his playing career last year after stints at North Queensland Fury, Perth Glory and Muangthong United after leaving England in 2009.
Toxteth-born Fowler scored 129 Premier League goals in 267 appearances in his two spells with Liverpool and at Leeds, Manchester City, Cardiff and Blackburn Rovers.
Money will certainly not be a motivating factor for Fowler who is a multimillionaire through his playing days and numerous property investments.
