Betting coup
Gamblers around the world landed collective winnings estimated at £1.5m on Saturday after the biggest football betting coup in years, involving around £3m wagered on a minor Scottish match. Forfar, who were scheduled to play Peterhead, were facing an acute injury crisis that left them with only eight match-fit players, two of them goalkeepers, and had asked for the game to be postponed.
On the Betfair exchange alone, £405,000 was traded on the game, with £398,000 of that on Peterhead.
Peterhead won 8-0 and, to compound Forfar's misery, they had two players sent off.
