Newcastle breathed a huge sigh of relief yesterday on finding Kieron Dyer’s latest injury does not mean a long spell on the sidelines. The jinxed midfielder sustained a gruesome wound to his left thigh following a sickening clash with advertising hoardings at St James’ Park.Dyer, 27, said: “I knew the barrier was coming up and I caught it at the wrong angle. I slit my leg open but it was never going to keep me off the pitch.
“There was no need for stitches, it’s just a really deep cut. I needed it cleaned up and a piece of skin removed, so, hopefully, it will clear up.”
