ITV cuts away from dramatic finale of Spurs tie for advert break

Football fans were left fuming after the final moments of Tottenham's gripping Europa League tie was interrupted by an advert break.

With three minutes to go in extra time of a pulsating quarter-final - and with the tie level at 4-4 on aggregate - ITV cut to adverts in Scotland.

So instead of watching Spurs trying to snatch a winner at Basle, STV viewers were bemused to see a Ladbrokes advert with the slogan 'football is on'

Jamie Smith tweeted: 'Awkward moment when the ladbrokes advert telling cammy to watch the football comes on over the top of the football haha!'

Stuart Dickson said: 'Well done STV. It's not like the football was reaching a dramatic conclusion or anything.  Ad break during the match - oh dear.'

And Michael Conroy added: 'It's all those @itvfootball idiots! Another reason why Scotland should be independent.'

Coverage was restored for the penalty shootout which Spurs lost 4-1.
