Cole and Lampard to wear captain's armband
Ashley Cole will wear a captain's armband and lead the team out on his 100th England appearance against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley tomorrow night, but Frank Lampard will officially be leading the team.
In a bizarre situation, both Cole and Lampard will wear armbands during the match, but the midfielder will retain captain's duties.
It has become the tradition that any player receiving their 100th cap is skipper in that game, but Cole apparently turned down the responsibilities against Ireland. Lampard performed the captain's pre-match media duties as normal.
