Dutch fans hospitalised after eating 'hash cakes' in skybox
According to Dutch news reports, 16 ADO Den Haag fans had to be taken to hospital during the Feyenoord game after falling ill and passing out in the stands.
Having later undergone toxicity tests at the hospital, all 16 were found to have ingested inordinately large amounts of cannabis.
It later turned out that the supporters had all unwittingly eaten pieces of a "hash cake" that was served up in their corporate skybox, though quite how the drug-infused delicacy ended up on the dessert menu is yet to be determined.
This from local news outlet Omroep West:
"How the space cake ended up in the skybox is unclear. [It is unknown whether] it was a malicious action or a failed joke.
According to ADO Den Haag, the catering was not provided by the club.
"Police have taken the remains of the cake away for research, but won't disclose any details at present. The hospital also remains tight-lipped about the case."
A spokeswoman for the Dutch club was also keen to point out that companies which hire the boxes at the stadium on match-days are entirely responsible for providing their own food.
