Family to take ashes of dead fan to Wrexham play-off final
A passionate Wrexham fan will finally fulfill his ambition of seeing his side play at Wembley this week - despite dying almost a year ago.
Dragons supporter Kenny Pemberton failed to see his side play at the home of football before he died of a heart attack at the aged of just 49.
But in a heart-warming gesture, Kenny will achieve his ambition in spirit as his family are set to take his ashes to Wembley for the match.
‘Kenny always dreamed of watching Wrexham at Wembley,’ said brother Paul.
‘If he were still with us he’d be the first there. So this is my tribute to my brother.’
Kenny is not your average Wrexham fan though - he will go down in club folklore after helping secure their future a few years ago.
Wrexham were faced with losing their stadium to a rogue former chairman, only for Mr Pemberton to use secret recordings of the chairman’s illicit dealings to win back ownership following a High Court case.
The decision helped give the club a base to build on, and they now face Welsh rivals Newport looking to secure a place back in the Football League.
