Bolivian town announces 20% of babies now called Neymar
A town in Bolivia is set to become overrun with people called Neymar after a huge rush of parents naming their child after the Barcelona ace.
After his starring performances at the Confederations Cup coupled with a £52million switch to Barcelona, it’s understandable that Neymar is a name on everybody’s lips this summer.
But according to officials from La Paz, Bolivia, his fame has taken hold of new parents in the city with 20 per cent of new babies being given the name Neymar.
The current rate of new Neymars is around 2 in every 10, but the city has raised concerns about the trend, admitting this week that they fear everybody will share the same name in the next few years.
‘We believe that in 17 years most adult males will be called Neymar because that is the current trend,’ said Remigio Condori; of the La Paz civil registry office.
‘It’s the big fashion right now’.
