Country asks fans to help pay for flights and hotels
South American minnows Belize have asked fans to help them pay for flights, hotels and new training equipment during their run at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The tiny nation will make their debut in the tournament this week, after earning a place by finishing fourth in the Centroamericana competition.
But as supporters gear up to follow Belize’s journey in the United States, the nation has warned it’s spell in the Gold Cup could be cut short.
Belize, ranked 130th in the world, are struggling to raise money to complete their allocated matches, with the cost of flights and hotels mounting, while they also need new training gear.
So the head of the Belize FA has turned to fans and asked them to do their bit to support the team, with donations now being accepted on their official website.
