Chancellor Angela Merkel catches Bastian Schweinsteiger in the nude
German chancellor Angela Merkel was once confronted by one of her country’s top footy stars in the buff, according to the president of the German football association Wolfgang Niersbach.
Niersbach let slip Merkel’s eye-popping experience while making a speech in Dusseldorf.
It seems that the recently re-elected head of the German government enjoys nothing more than a trip to see the national team in action and often pops into the dressing room after a game to chat to the players.
It was during one such visit, following Germany’s 4-2 win over Greece at Euro 2012, that Merkel was confronted with the naked star.
Niersbach said: ‘When the chancellor comes into the dressing room, they [the players] all have to be dressed – that was my job at that time. We forgot one player was still in the shower.’
Asked to name the mystery star, a cheeky Niersbach replied: ‘Not telling! That would be embarrassing for Bastian Schweinsteiger.’
