Economy could suffer '£2billion' hit if England fail to qualify
The British economy could suffer a £2billion hit if England fail to qualify for the World Cup, it has been claimed.
Retaail trade association The British Retail Consortium estimated that should England miss a World Cup finals for the first time in 20 years, the ramifications will spread to all corners of the economy.
The Football Association has been warned off the possible commercial disaster and the knock-on effect.
The governing body face losses of up to £50million in potential cash prize, merchandising and sponsorship dealz, while the wider economy would lose out.
Industries such as pubs, supermarkets, bookmakers, airlines and TV retailers all receive a boost when England qualify for major tournaments.
