Gallas joins the A-League
Perth Glory have confirmed the signing of former Chelsea and Arsenal defender William Gallas after the Frenchman agreed to join the Australian club on a one-year deal.
The 36-year-old will become Glory's international marquee player and will join the likes of Emile Heskey and Alessandro Del Piero in the Hyundai A-League.
Speaking via his agent, Gallas said: 'After speaking to Alistair Edwards (Head Coach) and Jason Brewer (CEO), the passion and ambition in the voices of both gentlemen enticed me to this new challenge in Australia. I look forward to wearing with pride the jersey of Perth Glory for this season.
A-League teams are allowed to sign one 'international marquee player' who they can offer a slightly larger wage outside of the team's set wage cap.
They can also sign an 'Australian designated player' and a 'junior marquee player'.
These rulings are designed to help clubs acquire quality players whilst preventing bidding wars that can put them in financial danger before the season is underway.
