Leeds don't even have a scout
Once upon a time they were the champions of England - on three occasions no less - Champions League semi-finalists and even set a new British transfer record when they splashed out £18million on a defender.
Today, Leeds United don’t even have a scout.
Their regression has, of course, been well documented but the revelation of manager Brian McDermott that the club do not boast a single talent-spotter will surely arrive as a shock to supporters
McDermott has been in his post since April but, only now, is he able to lay down plans for the implementation of a scouting network.
Speaking on Sky’s Footballers’ Football Show, a clearly frustrated McDermott, when pressed on the importance of scouting, said: ‘That’s an interesting subject at Leeds, because we certainty need to improve what we’ve got.
‘I wouldn’t say we have a scouting structure per se. We are just in the process of getting a scout, a chief scout, who is going to put together a scouting programme, which I’ll do with him.
