Steve Bruce: ‘Taking the Sunderland job was a mistake’
Hull manager Steve Bruce says he made a mistake when he took charge of Sunderland.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s meeting between the two sides, Bruce admitted he would probably pass on the opportunity to manage the Black Cats given the chance to make his decision again.
The former Manchester United defender believes his Newcastle roots put him at an immediate disadvantage at the Stadium of Light.
He said: "Maybe looking back on it in hindsight going there was arguably a mistake, being where I’m from, being a Newcastle fan as a boy. Some would never forgive that.
"Thankfully Hull gave me the opportunity to get back to work again and when you get sacked you want to come back out fighting and show people what you’re about."
