A six-strong brass band from Sheffield have been banging their drums and playing trumpets at the Three Lions' internationals since the mid-Nineties.

The band regularly play what they hope are crowd-rousing renditions of the national anthem and other tunes at Wembley and on the road.

But they will have to leave their instruments at home next summer if they are planning to go to the World Cup.

World Cup managing director, Ron DelMont, confirmed that musical instruments will be banned from venues at the tournament next summer.

"Brazil doesn't need instruments to enhance what you are going to experience in the stadium," he added, at a press conference in Salvador, where the World Cup draw takes place on Friday.

The band were allowed into England's opening match of Euro 2012, but then had their instruments confiscated.

The decision ended up causing something of a diplomatic incident.

The Football Association complained to UEFA and it allowed the band to play on for the rest of the England's stay.

The band also planned to perform at 2008 Olympics in China, but were banned from taking their instruments into the Bird's Nest Stadium and played on the streets outside instead.
