Man Utd and Sunderland face two games in two days in January

Manchester United will play two matches within less than 50 hours early next month after the schedules for their cup matches were confirmed.

United’s Capital One Cup semi-final first-leg against Sunderland will be played on Tuesday, January 7, just two days after their FA Cup third round clash with Swansea.

The game against the Black Cats will kick-off around 49-and-a-half hours after their tie with the Swans has finished.

Sunderland will have just a couple of extra hours of recuperation time, with their FA Cup game at home to Carlisle kicking off at 2pm on Sunday, January 5.

In a strange scheduling decision, fellow Capital One Cup semi-finalists Manchester City and West Ham both have extra time to prepare for their first-leg on Wednesday, January 9.

City play on Saturday lunchtime, while the Hammers play on Sunday lunchtime.
