Walcott set to become a dad during World Cup

England’s World Cup schedule already includes a considerable amount of travelling, but it could involve even more for Arsenal striker Theo Walcott if he is selected in Roy Hodgson’s squad.

Walcott and wife Melanie Slade have announced they are expecting their first child - and the baby is due to arrive during the World Cup.

The couple said in a statement: "We are both very excited at such happy news just a few months after getting married. We are really looking forward to becoming parents."

If he makes the squad, Walcott will be expected to join England’s training camp in Miami shortly after the end of the domestic season.

He would then fly to Brazil for the tournament itself, which starts on June 12.

The 24-year-old faces the prospect of two Atlantic crossings in a short space of time if he decides to be present for the birth.
