Nocerina get thrown out for faking injuries

Italian football has hit the headlines again for all the wrong reasons after one of its club sides' was expelled due to several of their players faking injury to get a match abandoned.

The incident came in Nocerina's clash against bitter third division rivals Saletnitana in November.

Nocerina players were reluctant to take to the field after receiving death threats from their own Ultras fans who were unhappy about being banned from the game.

The fixture was delayed by 40 minutes at the start, for this reason; before the Mastini made three substitutions and had five players leave the action injured all within 21 minutes - leaving the referee no choice but to call off the game.

As well as banning the club, Italian Football Federation (FIGC) also fined the team 10,000 euros and handed lengthy bans to those players found guilty.
