Snodgrass winner costs punters £372,000 each
Robert Snodgrass was a happy man when he banged in Norwich’s winner against Tottenham - but for two unlucky punters it was a very, very different story.
The Coral customers had correctly predicted 14 results on their coupon but needed Spurs - not the ideal team to be relying on, it’s fair to say - to win yesterday to walk away with a share of the firm’s Football Jackpot: £372,481 each to be exact.
So you can imagine their distress when Snodgrass’ 47th-minute strike hit the back of the net at Carrow Road - not to mention when misfiring Spurs striker Roberto Soldado entered the fray as the Canaries held on for a 1-0 win.
All was not completely lost for the pair, however, with Coral paying them £5,999 each as a consolation prize.
‘You have to feel desperately sorry for these two punters who came so close to winning life-changing sums of money today,’ said Coral spokesman Simon Clare.
‘It must have been the most incredible, and ultimately agonising, rollercoaster ride for both of them as the Liverpool and Newcastle wins were incredible nail-biters, and they then watched Spurs spurn loads of chances en route to costing them the monster payout.
‘Both customers will receive just shy of six grand as a consolation for missing out by one on the Football Jackpot, but it will be scant consolation indeed.’
